‘WS Win’ Dodgers sign FA contract with ‘Cy Young Award’ left-hander Snell…5 years, 254.2 billion won
The Los Angeles Dodgers, which won the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series trophy in the 2024 season, recruited the biggest fish of the Stove League FA (Free Agent).
The Dodgers announced on its official website on the 27th (Korea Standard Time) that it signed a five-year, $182 million contract with Blake Snell (32) for five years (about 254.254 billion won).
In March, 꽁머니 signed a two-year contract worth 62 million dollars (about 85.59 billion won) with the San Francisco Giants. This included an opt-out to break the remaining contract and become an FA after the 2024 season.
Snell once again used an opt-out this winter to be evaluated by the mayor, and the Dodgers reached out to him.
The $182 million contract is the third-highest total in MLB history as a left-hander.
David Price of the Boston Red Sox ($217 million) in 2015, Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers ($215 million) in 2014, and Snell’s contract this time.
Snell, who made his big league debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2016, went through the San Diego Padres and San Francisco with a career-high 211 games, 76-58 with a 3.19 ERA in nine seasons.
He received one Cy Young Award in the American League and the National League, making him the seventh winner of the two major league Cy Young Awards in history.
This year, he played in 20 games and recorded five wins, three losses and an earned run average of 3.12. He had difficulties in the first half due to his late contract with the FA and injury, but demonstrated his capability by posting five wins, no loss and an earned run average of 1.45 in the second half alone.
Of the pitchers who have pitched more than 250 innings in the past two seasons, only one player with a lower ERA than Snell is Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers.
